Stewardship Workshop
Biblical Principles to Daily Living
Nov.
5--First
Christian Church is hosting an area wide workshop on Stewardship:
From Biblical Principles to Daily Living on November 10 from 10
a.m. - 3:15. Rev. Eugene Fisher, Director of Membership for the
Pension Fund of
the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will be leading the
workshop. Rev. Fisher was formerly the executive director of the
Reconciliation Ministry - the racial justice ministry- of the
Christian Church.
The workshop will look at the Biblical Principles of Stewardship with small group discussion. Following lunch, which will be provided, participants will explore stewardship of time, talent, and financial resources. Rev. Maggie Sebastian, pastor of First Christian states, "I attended one of Gene's workshops when I lived in New York. Youcome away realizing that stewardship is not just about writing a check each week to the church. Stewardship is God's call to us to live in ways that are consistent with our faith, and this touches every aspect of our lives. It is a powerful way to look at living as baptized Christians."
175 Years of Bringing Hope & Healing to Wheeling
Fisher to Lead Stewardship Workshop
As
part of our 175th celebration, First Christian will be sponsoring a
workshop on stewardship November 10 from 103 p.m. If you did not
get a brochure in the mail, there are extras in the church office.
Immediately following the workshop at 4 p.m. will be the Mens
Spaghetti Dinner so you can pick up or eat in your dinner as well!
First Christian Church members may attend without cost. The $10 fee
included in the brochure is to help offset the cost of the meal and
will be covered for church members.
Rev. Eugene Fisher will be our workshop leader as we explore the
Biblical Principals of Stewardship and how to apply that to our
Daily Living. Remember, Stewardship is more than our monetary
givingit is a way of living in response to Gods merciful love.
We hope that many of you will attend and learn more about the
spiritual discipline of Stewardship.

God's Abundance is Evident as 147 Items Are Gleaned Sunday
Nov. 17, 2006--Members and friends of First Christian gleaned nearly one-hundred and fifty items last Sunday. The gleaning is a combination of the regular, weekly offerings of food and extra offerings for the creation of Thanksgiving bags.
As the Stewardship Campaign comes to a close this Sunday, over 324 items have been collected. Rev. Sebastian challenges members and friends to make that number at least 500 with additional items gleaned this week. In addition to your regular offering of food, members and friends are asked to bring rolls and desserts for the Thanksgiving bags this week.

Our God of Abundance
Nov. 16--As we have moved through our Stewardship Campaign this year, we have heard a lot about our God of Abundance. Our God who Created all that we are and need. We have remembered how Bill Rodgers, Brian Cornett, Jim Kettler, Bobby Wolen, John Cole, Bill Blon, Bill Cooke, Ev Crouser, Nona Kappel, Dwight Koon, Danny Dunable, and Alvin Gump have left us with a legacy of abundant living for God. We have been reminded that just as God cares for the birds of the air and the flowers of the field, so God cares even more for us. We have talked about what it means to give sacrificially of ourselves for Godwhether that means giving of our time, our talent, our financial resources, or even our emotional selves.
We will bring our Stewardship Campaign to a close on November 19 by
consecrating our pledges during our morning worship. If you were
unable to attend worship that morning, we ask that you mail your
pledge into the church. We will bless our abundant pledges. We will
hear Maggie preach, Living Abundantly in Hard Times, from Ruth
1:1-18; Psalm 146. We will celebrate our abundance with one of our
terrific fellowship hours. And finally we will share our abundance
by preparing and delivering our Thanksgiving Bags to the needy.
Our Thanksgiving gleaning items for November 19 are rolls and a
dessert. Turkey certificates are available BEFORE service. We will
need packers and those able to deliver the bags. If you can help
call Wendy at 277-4509 or the office at 242-1520. Be sure to be with
us as we celebrate Our God of Abundance.
Stewardship Campaign Includes Emphasis on Food Gleaning
The theme of this years stewardship
campaign is Our God of Abundance. As part of exploring
Gods abundance the church is placing an emphasis on the gleaning
ministry. This year the stewardship and outreach departments, in a
joint effort, are asking people to glean a
thanksgiving meal in addition to their normal weekly
gleaning. By doing this, the church will continue to support the
18th Street mission and help those most in need around the holiday
Instead of individuals preparing a thanksgiving bag, those who are
able, are asked to bring different staples of a thanksgiving meal
(or two or three) each week. Gods Abundance is already growing in
the sanctuary as a result of the first two weeks of this campaign
(see photo). The suggested schedule is:
Nov.12th .potatoes either a bag or box of instant
Nov.19th .rolls and a dessert (an already prepared or mix, cake, brownie or etc.
Turkey certificates will be available to purchase Nov. 5, 12, and before church on Nov. 19.
Thanksgiving bags will be assembled from these gleanings and will be delivered on Sunday Nov. 19th. People are still needed to help assemble and deliver the bags immediately following worship. If you would like to help please contact Elaine Cole at 304-845-4579, Wendy Barbeau at 304-277-4509 or by e-mail at outreach@bigroundwindow.com, or the church office.
